Bot block rate on Telegram: what it means

By Mario Antonini·

Bot block rate is the share of your leads who blocked your bot on Telegram. Blocking is how someone says “stop messaging me”. Telegram treats it as an event: the Bot API tells a bot when a user blocks or unblocks it.

Anyone who blocks you is out of reach, so this number matters more than it looks.

How to calculate it

There’s no official formula. Two useful versions:

  • Across your base: blocked leads ÷ total leads in the bot.
  • Per send: new blocks after one broadcast ÷ that broadcast’s audience.

In Flow4You, the lead base shows active and blocked counts. For the per-send version, compare the blocked count before and after the broadcast. The audience total is in the broadcast history.

There’s no universal “normal” rate, so be wary of anyone quoting a ready-made benchmark. Compare your bot with itself: one send against the last.

What you control

  • Who gets the message. Filter by tag. A message that doesn’t fit the person is the most likely reason to block.
  • What you promised. If a lead came for a class and only gets offers, the expectation breaks.
  • Frequency. Send when you have something to say.
  • The exit. A “Not now” button gives people an alternative to blocking.
  • Existing buyers. Remove the interest tag that the offer’s broadcast uses, so they leave that audience.

What you don’t control: people who block right after getting what they came for. It happens. Watch the trend, not the single case.

See how to segment and follow a send in the guide to Telegram broadcast messages.
